.KEY MESSAGES...

* Warm temperatures continue with above- normal afternoon highs
and near-record warmth for the morning lows.

* Thunderstorm chances return to the forecast starting Thursday as
monsoon moisture increases, with the highest confidence and most
  widespread storm coverage on Friday.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Through Tuesday

Overnight lows look to be very similar to the previous night with
only a few degrees warmer for a few sites, continuing the pattern
of near record-breaking warm mornings. This warm morning will lead
into another warm afternoon with temperatures very comparable to
Wednesday afternoon, with most sites seeing only a degree plus or
minus from the previous day`s high. These highs will mostly be
around 5 degrees above average, and lead to Moderate to Major
HeatRisk in most desert valleys and the Extreme Heat Warning
remains in effect through Friday. Slight relief is for Friday as
afternoon highs fall by a few degrees, but Saturday shows a slight
rebound. Slight cooling is expected again Sunday, but from there
highs and lows look to plateau into the next work week with
fairly consistent heat expected.

Thunderstorms return to the forecast late Thursday morning as
moisture advects across most of Arizona and into portions of of
Nevada and SE California. The best chances for storms will be
focused over Mohave Co offering locally heavy rain and strong
gusts as well as flooding and lightning. Slight chances for
storms will be possible over over the favored ridge tops for the
rest of the CWA, but look to only lead to a few isolated cells.
Additional chances are expected for Friday but continue the focus
over Mohave Co, with even less chances for the rest of the CWA.
Chances over the weekend look to fall off, but don`t completely
erode. Non-zero chances for storms return for Saturday with
slightly better chances expected for Sunday. Slight chances will
be possible each afternoon into the next work week, but the
current forecast doesn`t show much in the way of widespread
convection then.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...
Daily wind pattern expected through the forecast period for KLAS.
Similar to yesterday, light south winds become light and variable
through the rest of the morning hours. Winds briefly become SE 16-
19z before increasing and shifting to the S-SSW at 10-15 kts with
gusts exceeding 20 kts at times 19z-02z. There will be convection to
the east in Arizona this evening and some Hi-res guidance shows
outflow boundaries surging west toward the Valley. Did not put
outflow winds in the TAF with this forecast package, however will
monitor how storms evolve this evening and update the forecast as
necessary if outflow looks to impact the terminal. Outside of any
possible convective influences, expect light southerly flow to
persist into the overnight hours. Temperatures exceed 100 degrees by
18z, peak around 23z, and cool below 100 shortly before 04z.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light winds this morning
will prevail over the next several hours before southerly flow picks
up again at most sites by 18z. Afternoon wind gusts may exceed 20-25
kts at times before diminishing after sunset. The exception is KDAG
where west winds this morning become light and variable this
afternoon, favoring NE directions. Hi-res guidance does show the
potential for convection around KDAG 23z-04z this evening, so have
added a Prob30 group to account for possible storms and erratic wind
speeds and directions. After storms pass, expect typical diurnal
wind trends at KDAG as westerly set up overnight. Did not add any
convection for KEED or KIFP as storms should remain to the east;
however guidance is hinting at the possibility of outflow surging
east impacting those terminals this evening and tonight...will
monitor convective trends and evolution this evening and update the
TAFs accordingly.
