.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1019 PM MDT Tue Mar 24 2026
RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES AND DRY CONDITIONS:
Hot temperatures and dry conditions will continue through
through at least the workweek. Building high pressure will be
centered just south of the Four Corners area tomorrow,
increasing high temperatures. For the Grand Junction Regional
Airport specifically, tomorrow`s forecast is in the upper 80`s,
well above the record of 79 degrees set in 2012. Thursday`s
high temperature forecast also currently exceeds the record at
the airport, which is 81 degrees and was set in 1971. As the high
pressure center weakens, temperatures will gradually drop going
into the weekend.
The jet and frontal boundary to our north will move southward
as a trough begins to develop in the flow. This will position
some stronger winds aloft, and increase the pressure gradient a
bit, particularly in the northern half of our CWA. So, strong
afternoon wind gusts persist, and thus, so do fire weather
concerns. Red Flag Warnings remain in effect for tomorrow in
northwest Colorado where fuels are critical. Fire Weather
Watches remain in effect for Thursday.
PoPs remain low until an upcoming pattern shift, but a few
isolated showers are not out of the question for the southern
mountains tomorrow, and the northern and central mountains on
Thursday. These showers are a product of some moisture
advection off of the Pacific.
PATTERN SHIFT:
A pattern shift is in the forecast as high pressure to our
south weakens, and becomes centered more to our Southeast.
Lingering moisture and energy moving through the flow may
support increased PoPs this weekend. Models are showing
potential for a longwave through to move across the West early
next week, potentially bringing potential for seasonable
temperatures and increased precipitation chances.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z THURSDAY/...
Issued at 446 AM MDT Wed Mar 25 2026
VFR conditions can be expected over the next 24 hours with just
a few passing high clouds at times. Winds will be light through
early afternoon after which a few gusts in the 20 to 30 mph
range will be possible.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 1019 PM MDT Tue Mar 24 2026
Hot, dry, and windy conditions look to persist through much of
the workweek. Critical fire weather conditions are expected in
northwestern Colorado during the afternoon tomorrow and
Thursday, for which Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches
have been issued for, respectively. Friday looks to be the
driest day of the week, but decreased wind gusts may keep
critical fire weather conditions localized. Temperatures trend
lower, and relative humidity gradually trends upward this
weekend, although stronger afternoon gusts return as well.
