.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 300 AM CDT Mon Apr 6 2026

A shortwave trough digging over the Great Lakes area will drive a
cold front south into Kansas today. This front was bisecting
Nebraska during the overnight hours and is progged to continue
moving south and southeast as we move through the day today before
becoming stationary in the vicinity of the I-70 corridor. The front
may venture further south this evening and tonight into parts of
east central KS from around Emporia to Iola before returning
northward as a warm front on Tuesday. Breezy southerly winds will
return on Tuesday with some morning clouds keeping temperatures near
70 which is still above normal for early April.

A shortwave trough is progged to arrive late Tue night into early
Wed and we could see some shower activity early on Wed. Better
chances for showers and storms may arrive Wed night over parts of
central KS as the nocturnal LLJ ramps up over southwest KS nosing
into central and south central Kansas after midnight which could
allow for some of the activity along the front to build southward
into the forecast area. Some cloud cover could keep temperatures a
bit cooler on Wed with highs around 70 anticipated once again. Steep
mid-lvl lapse rates and some modest elevated CAPE could produce some
hailers Wed night.

Thu-Fri...A mean large scale trough across the Northern Plains is
progged to persist through the period while the pbl is progged to
remain moist and unstable across the Central Plains with westerly
oriented deep layer shear vectors around 35-40 knots progged. A slow
moving front will meander over the area through the period with
persistent mid-lvl waa bringing a chance for strong or severe
diurnally driven storms each day.

Shortwave ridging is progged to build into the area on Saturday
which may give us a brief break but as it translates eastward late
in the period it will be hard to rule out additional storm chances
as we see more subtle shortwave troughs lifting out of the larger
southwest CONUS trough over the weekend and into early next week. As
the primary trough lifts out negatively tilted early the the week,
more substantial severe weather could evolve over the Central
Plains.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 1229 AM CDT Mon Apr 6 2026

VFR conditions are expected through the end of the period at all
sites.

South winds are forecast to increase across central and south
central KS through the mid to late morning hours with sustained
speeds around 15 kts and gusts to 25 kts. A surface boundary will
gradually sag southward by early evening and result in winds backing
to the east at RSL and SLN. This may occur earlier in the period
with some guidance suggesting a wind shift in the late afternoon.
Decided to place this change after 00Z for this cycle, so stay
tuned to future forecasts as additional trends and observations
become available.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 300 AM CDT Mon Apr 6 2026

Breezy southerly winds, mild temperatures, and lower relative
humidity will result in very high grassland fire danger for portions
of central and south-central KS Today through Wednesday during the
afternoon hours.

.ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
None.
