.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 247 AM EDT Wed Mar 25 2026
Wedge in place over the eastern portions of the area leading to
easterly winds and cloud cover over this area. Over central
Georgia, low clouds are settling in through the morning while the
remainder of the area continues to see higher level cloudy skies
as seen on satellite. Gutsy winds are beginning to diminish and
will continue to diminish through the afternoon and evening today.
Some of the CAMs are indicating a very low chance for showers to
affect central Georgia today but these will be light in nature IF
they are even able to overcome the sheer amount of dry air in
place. Temps today under the cloud cover will be close to
seasonable in the mid 60s before temps begin warming again on
Thursday and into the weekend.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 247 AM EDT Wed Mar 25 2026
Very Warm Friday, Cooler and Dry This Weekend:
Low-level southwest flow over the area on Friday will pump in a
very warm airmass, allowing high temps to climb into the mid to
upper 80s by the afternoon. Despite the warm temperatures and a
slight uptick in moisture, rain chances will remain near zero
with the influence of the strong ridge over the Southern US. A
weakening cold front will push in from the north late Friday into
early Saturday, but would at most bring a 10-20% chance of rain
across far northern GA. The bigger impact will be a cool, dry
airmass and breezy NW winds that will move in across the area
behind the front on Saturday. High temps on Saturday will
struggle to climb out of the 60s for much of the area, with
overnight lows into Sunday morning in the low to mid 40s. Winds
turn easterly late Saturday and Sunday, but will only reinforce
the cool airmass with highs on Sunday again in the mid to upper
60s for most areas.
Dry with a Warming Trend Next Week:
Model guidance continues to come into better agreement on the
pattern for the first half of next week, with the strong ridge
that has been over the Southwest US finally starting to shift
east. This will lead to continued dry conditions and a strong
warming trend from Monday through at least Wednesday. Highs will
likely climb back into the mid to upper 70s on Monday, and then
into the 80s for Tuesday and Wednesday as the ridge axis shifts
over the Southeast US. With basically no rainfall in the forecast
for the next 7 days across much of the area, ongoing drought
conditions will only worsen.
