* Gusty winds and cooler temperatures will spread across the region
  today.

* Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected across the
  southern Great Basin midweek as a low pressure system sits over
  central Nevada.

.DISCUSSION...through the weekend.

Gusty winds have developed as expected across the region today in
response to a low digging into northern California. Widespread gusts
35-45 MPH have been reported in many locations so far and will
persist into tonight as the upper level system continues to dig
south, and a Wind Advisory remains in effect for all areas outside
of western Arizona. A few spots in Mohave County could see gusts to
around 40 MPH this afternoon and evening, including Kingman, but
stronger gusts and wind impacts should remain isolated thus did not
expand the Wind Advisory further east. The strongest winds and
highest impacts today will be in Inyo County as some downsloping
enhancement will result in gusts over 50 MPH, strong crosswinds, and
blowing dust in Death Valley. Also will see strong crosswinds on I-
95 near Indian Springs, NV as southwest wind enhance off the Spring
Mountains. Winds will slowly dissipate overnight but remain gusty to
25-35 MPH on Wednesday. Stronger winds are likely in the Western
Mojave Desert and Morongo Basin Wednesday afternoon, with the Wind
Advisory continuing through Wednesday night while the rest of the
area should see impacts drop off by early Wednesday morning. The
upper level low will stall out over north-central California and
slowly weaken the rest of the week, so expect breezy winds each
afternoon through Friday, but gusts will not be as strong as today.
With breezy winds and lower upper level heights sitting over the
region, cooler temperatures are expected Wednesday through Friday
before the low exits and warmer temperature return this weekend.

With a cold core upper level low sitting nearby as previously
mentioned, scattered showers will develop in Inyo County into
western portions of the Southern Great Basin. The highest chances
for rain will be Wednesday late afternoon through Thursday as weak
moisture returns nudge into the area and low levels can somewhat
saturate. Most of the precipitation should remain light, though any
upslope or training could result in a quick 0.25 inch in northern
Inyo and Esmeralda counties. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in
the afternoons which could also result in moderate rainfall rates at
times. The low weakens and ejects east after Thursday which will
take any precipitation chances with it. Dry conditions are
expected this weekend.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Gusty
southwesterly winds will be the rule through the forecast period.
Gusts early in the period will be around 25KT, quickly increasing
to 30-35KT through sunset. Winds and gusts will diminish somewhat
overnight, with sustained speeds dropping to around 15KT with
gusts to around 25KT, continuing thereafter. There will be some
variability in wind direction, generally between 200-240 true,
with winds expected to back more south-southwesterly Wednesday
late morning onward. VFR conditions will prevail with FEW-SCT
clouds at or above 15kft. Localized blowing dust will be possible
over dry lake beds outside of the Valley, potentially resulting in
some slantwise visibility reductions.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Gusty southerly to
southwesterly winds are expected across most of the region
today, with sustained speeds around 20-25KT and gusts to 30-35KT
common this afternoon through this evening. Near higher terrain
and in downslope-favored areas, there will be some variability in
wind direction, especially across the Owens Valley (including
KBIH) where west-northwesterly winds will gust to 35-40KT this
afternoon into tonight, becoming lighter thereafter. Across the
western Mojave Desert/KDAG, winds will remain westerly, with the
strongest gusts to 40-45KT this afternoon and tonight. Elsewhere,
winds diminish somewhat overnight but remain elevated around
10-15KT with at least intermittent higher gusts to around 20KT
expected. VFR conditions prevail with clouds generally at or above
12kft, though localized visibility reductions in blowing dust
will be possible.
