.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Dense Fog with a Very High Transportation Risk with
visibility down to zero each morning through this week in the
San Joaquin Valley.
2. Dry conditions and near to above average temperatures
continue for the next week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Widespread dense fog developed throughout the Central Valley
last night into this morning and has resulted in more traffic
collisions and school delays. It cannot be stressed enough that
motorists take caution if they have to drive in areas with
reduced visibility. This week will be associated with high
pressure ridging and continued nighttime and morning fog in the
Valley. Probabilities for visibility below 1/4 mile are 60 to
70 percent tonight into Tuesday, and there is a similar
likelihood again Tuesday night into Wednesday. This pattern will
continue until at least late this week. In addition, easterly
winds will increase over the Kern County mountains and desert
starting Tuesday and will last through at least Thursday due to
the ridging over our area coupled with an upper-level low off
the coast of Baja California. The chances for a 40 mph or
stronger gust in these areas are 20-30 percent for this period.
There is a 20-30 percent chance for light precipitation in our
area by Sunday, mainly Fresno County northward from the coastal
ranges to the Sierra. Chances increase to 30-40 percent by next
Monday. An upper-level trough will pass over our forecast area
during that time. We will continue to monitor for additional fog
in the Valley; however, the likelihood decreases.
The CPC outlooks continue to suggest a shift to a more active
storm pattern starting next week, including a 50-60 percent
chance of above average precipitation, per the latest 8-14 day
outlook. Also, the 6-10 day outlook shows up to 40-50 percent
chance of above average precipitation. Warmer than average
temperatures are also shown for both the 6-10 day and 8-14 day
periods.
&&
.AVIATION...
IFR conditions due to fog/cigs will continue at the TAF sites
until 20Z Monday. Dense fog with LIFR to VLIFR conditions will
return by 06Z Tuesday and last until 20Z Tuesday. There is a
60-70% chance of reaching VLIFR conditions in dense fog.
Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected for the Sierra Nevada,
Coastal Range, and Mojave Desert for the next 24 hours.
&&
.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
On Monday February 2 2026, Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups in
Fresno, Kern, Kings, and Tulare Counties. Fireplace/Wood Stove

Counties. No Burning Unless Registered in Kings, Madera,
