Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
216 PM PDT Thu Mar 19 2026
.SYNOPSIS...19/134 PM.
Temperatures will remain well above normal through next week,
though some cooling is expected this weekend. Areas of dense
coastal fog is possible through the weekend as well. Temperatures
will trend upward again next week but are not expected to be as
hot as this week.
&&
.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...19/202 PM.
In general temperatures today are either the same or a few degrees
cooler than yesterday. Expecting one more day of similar
temperatures before the current high pressure system starts
shifting into AZ which will initiate a brief cooling trend
over the weekend. Most areas except the far interior will
experience 5-10 degrees of cooling this weekend, though that still
keeps highs 10-20 degrees above normal. A shallow marine layer has
begun to form over the coastal waters and many beaches will start
out with dense fog the next few days and that will help cool off
the coastal areas.
In the meantime, it continues to be very hot with temperatures
20-30 degrees above normal Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat
Warnings remain in effect through Friday. Based on the current
forecast, there is only about a 30% chance of extending heat
advisories into Saturday, and those would most likely be in the
inland areas.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...19/215 PM.
Temperatures will slowly start to increase across inland areas
Sunday and for coastal areas on Monday. Not expecting
temperatures to be as hot as this week, but still 15-20 degrees
above normal, with a less than 5% chance of reaching 100 in the
valleys.
Additional rain possibilities still look very bleak through the
end of the month. Some models indicate some very light rain in
early April but amounts are mostly under a tenth of an inch.
&&

through Sunday across the outer waters and the nearshore waters
along the Central Coast. Seas will reach 8-12 feet, and there is a
