Wind south 45 to 55 knots diminishing to southwest 35 to 45 early this evening then veering to west 45 near midnight. Wind diminishing to west 35 Sunday morning and to southwest 25 Sunday afternoon. Wind diminishing to southwest 15 to 20 Sunday evening.

Showers with a risk of thunderstorms changing to flurries this evening. Fog patches dissipating early this evening. Visibility 1 mile or less in fog patches and in flurries.

Freezing spray warning in effect.

Freezing spray over western sections tonight and Sunday.

Temperatures plus 5 falling to minus 8 to minus 4 Sunday morning.

Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 10:00 AM NST 20 December 2025 Today Tonight and Sunday At 10:00 a.m. NST today deepening low 954 mb located over northern
Labrador.
By 10:00 a.m. NST Sunday low 956 mb located north of Labrador Sea.

At 10:00 a.m. NST today trough from 954 mb low located on a line
north-south over the West Coast of Newfoundland.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Sunday departing trough from low located north
of the Marine District.

At 8:00 p.m. NST tonight building ridge located over the Maritimes.


Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:51 AM NST 20 December 2025 A trough of low pressure associated with a rapidly intensifying low
over Northern Labrador will continue to cross the district today.
Strong to gale force southerlies to southwesterlies will increase to
gale to storm force southerlies ahead of the trough. Winds will shift
to gale to storm force westerlies in its wake and then diminish to
moderate to strong west to southwesterlies as it departs.

Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
all waters except Northeast Gulf, Southwest Coast, and Southeastern
Grand Banks where gale warnings are in effect.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf waters, Northeast Coast, and
Belle Isle Bank.

Marine interests are further advised that higher than normal water
levels are expected this morning along the west coast of Newfoundland
including the western side of the Great Northern Peninsula, as well
as both sides of the Strait of Belle Isle. This is due to a
combination of high waves and pounding surf, storm surge, and a
higher run of tides.
