.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 216 AM MDT Tue May 26 2026

A large low pressure system will move onto the Oregon coast
today. This low will interact with a vort max that is embedded
within a monsoon push of moisture moving north from Utah to
produce a round of light rain showers across east Idaho this
morning. This afternoon, much of the showers and clouds will
break up, allowing for another round of isolated to scattered
thunderstorms. PWAT values are over 0.75 inches, so potentially
a few locations could see a brief heavy downpour as these storms
pass overhead. Today feels very much like a mix of wet/dry
storms across the region where fire starts are possible outside
the main rain core. The additional cloud cover today will help
to keep temperatures cooler with highs in many locations
expected to be in the 70s to near 80.

The main low pressure system is expected to stall around Lake Tahoe
and remain there until Friday when it lifts towards our region. In
the meantime, we should see isolated thunderstorms with the better
chances to our west. The push of monsoonal moisture gets cut off as
well, which limits are thunderstorm coverage. Temps will remain warm
as well with highs ranging from the upper 70s to around 80 for the
mountains and highlands to the mid 80s for the Snake River Plain and
Magic Valley. Friday and Saturday are the best chances for
widespread rain as the low passes through our area. However,
rainfall amounts look light, generally around 0.10 inches or less.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 216 AM MDT Tue May 26 2026

Push of moisture arriving from the south may produce showers
around IDA, PIH and DIJ this morning. Isolated to scattered
thunderstorms are possible this afternoon with gusty, erratic
winds very possible near storms. High res models indicate that
PIH may be the least likely to see storms this afternoon.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 216 AM MDT Tue May 26 2026

Expect a mix of wet and dry thunderstorms today with isolated
to scattered coverage. Brief heavy downpours are possible within
the main rain core but fire starts from lighting are possible
on the outskirts of the thunderstorms. Gusty, erratic outflow
winds are once again likely today. Isolated to scattered
thunderstorms will remain possible through the rest of the week,
but storms should return to the dry variety.
